Meet Anissa: A Leader in Life and Lifting!

Writer: Liz CotroneoLiz Cotroneo

This year, I've chosen to spotlight some of the remarkable individuals I have the privilege of working with! This month, I’m excited to feature a local business owner, leader, and friend.

Anissa brings warmth, laughter, and energy to our groups. Despite the demands of starting her own business and caring for others, she has maintained a consistent practice of strength training and is an integral member of SGT.

Meet Anissa—an inspiration in the weight room and in life!

1. Can you tell everyone a little about yourself? (Name, age, where you live…)

I’m Anissa, a 24-year-old Denver native with a passion for wellness and skincare. I run Spruce Haven, my small skincare business based in Lakewood, where I focus on helping people look their best so they can feel their best. I’m dedicated to creating a relaxing experience through massaging facials and promoting healthy, glowing skin.

2. How did you find Better in Motion, and how has it impacted your life?

I found Better in Motion through Liz, who I first met when she was a client at my previous workplace in Wheat Ridge. We always had great conversations, and I especially enjoyed talking with her about fitness. One day, she encouraged me to check out the gym just for fun. I was hesitant at first, but once I finally went, I immediately wished I had started sooner. Better in Motion has been a game-changer for me, not just physically but in building confidence and consistency in my fitness journey.

3. Can you share any significant moments or enjoyable memories from Small Group Training?

Beyond building strength, what stands out the most to me is the sense of community. I love connecting with the other group members—especially when a conversation gets going, and we’re all laughing together. (Laughter burns calories, so that has to count as a workout, right?) The positive, encouraging environment makes training something I truly look forward to.

I really admire the other ladies in the group—they’re so strong, dedicated, and inspiring. Seeing their consistency and strength motivates me to keep pushing myself because I want to be just as strong and active as they are for years to come.

4. Is there anything else you’d like to share or any advice for others?

To me, Better in Motion represents overall well-being. I’ve learned that movement doesn’t have to be a chore—it can actually be enjoyable. Before, I struggled with consistency, often setting unrealistic goals and feeling discouraged when I couldn’t maintain them. But now, after a year and a half of small group training, I’ve built strength, improved my stamina, and, most importantly, stayed committed. My advice? Find a fitness routine that feels good for you, surround yourself with a supportive community, and remember that progress is about consistency, not perfection. I leaned this from Liz!
